Aiming to reduce single use plastic in Whitstable

Plastic Free Whitstable

Plastic Free Whitstable

PFW is a group of concerned local residents trying to reduce single-use plastic in our community. We started meeting in early 2018 and by the end of the year we had achieved Plastic-Free status from Surfers Against Sewage, the first place in Kent to do so.

Our objectives include:

  • Working with Canterbury City Council to eliminate single-use plastics in council-controlled venues and events and encourage their support for plastic-free communities
  • Encouraging and offering support to businesses to replace single-use plastic with suitable alternatives
  • Spreading the word through community organisations, schools and public places
  • Organising and participating in events including monthly beach cleans with our partner organisation Whitstable’s Marine Environment Group
  • Reporting to a steering group of community stakeholders on a yearly basis

We can all make a difference by how we consume. Don't forget #whitstable has a plastic-free shop Vita Stores @FrankWhitstable where you can pre-order and get deliveries. Or step inside the beautiful shop, bring your containers, and choose!

Across the UK, 89% of us already recycle and this means more of us are helping the environment than ever before. To maximise your efforts, we’ve put together this reminder of what can go in your blue and red bin (or paper and card insert). #RecycleWeek

Having coffee on the balcony at the wonderful @RevivalKent in #whitstable. Always delicious food, super friendly, great vibe. They also do fantastic work around mental health so our community needs to support them now so they can support others #useitorloseit

A lovely surprise! Thank you @canterbury_college for our Outstanding Employer award 2020.

We've loved & valued working in partnership with the Supported Learning department at the College since 2016

Here's hoping that our students can return from late Autumn 🤞

Are you tired of convincing your local café to accept your reusable cup just so you can enjoy your coffee without the waste? We are too! We’re calling on businesses around the UK to get reusables back on the menu! 📣 Add YOUR voice

In case you need proof of why wet wipes REALLY shouldn’t be flushed, here it is🤢
Thanks to the everyday heroes from @unitedutilities & our other partner water companies for sorting out our sewers.

#Whitstable lifts up the waves to demonstrate rising sea levels. Save the beach we love or let the sea rise over the town? There is another choice, stop #ClimateChange #RiseUp @XRebellionUK

If you want to reduce litter, please support the cafes that reduce their single use plastic. Borrow a #WhitstableCup and return it to any cafe here http://Whitstablecup.org.uk
