Aiming to reduce single use plastic in Whitstable

Plastic Free Whitstable

Plastic Free Whitstable

PFW is a group of concerned local residents trying to reduce single-use plastic in our community. We started meeting in early 2018 and by the end of the year we had achieved Plastic-Free status from Surfers Against Sewage, the first place in Kent to do so.

Our objectives include:

  • Working with Canterbury City Council to eliminate single-use plastics in council-controlled venues and events and encourage their support for plastic-free communities
  • Encouraging and offering support to businesses to replace single-use plastic with suitable alternatives
  • Spreading the word through community organisations, schools and public places
  • Organising and participating in events including monthly beach cleans with our partner organisation Whitstable’s Marine Environment Group
  • Reporting to a steering group of community stakeholders on a yearly basis

Exactly where our #whitstablecup should be, on the drainer not in landfill thank you @FreeWhitstable and to @toasttankerton xx #ReduceReuseRecycle these will be returned @umbrella_cafe tomorrow to get our deposit back.

Wrap: "We need to move away from a linear plastics economy, where we take, make and dispose of plastic, and towards a circular system where we keep plastic in the economy and out of the natural environment"
#WhitstableCup is good example #circulareconomy

Everyone's choosing to reuse in #whitstable even our diver! No excuses for single-use, you can borrow a cup for £1 and return it to any participating cafe in town and get your money back http://whitstablecup.org.uk

We love all the colours but which is your favourite?

Did you know that when we use these #reusable cups launched last month by @FreeWhitstable just 3 times they are already more carbon efficient than a #singleuse paper cup?

Pick your favourite & #reuse or mix & match 🙌

Thanks to @Whitproduce for being such big supporters of #whitstableCup, always trying to reduce their #singleuseplastic and being there from the start of this experimental journey #ChooseToReuse

Welcome to The Orangery Tearooms at @Whits_Castle who have joined http://whitstablecup.org.uk our new 'borrow a cup' scheme for the whole town.
£1 deposit to borrow a #whitstableCup and return to any other participating cafe. Let's rid this town of unnecessary single use plastic!
